Lenovo drives business outcomes with new infrastructure and edge devices

Lenovo just held their Tech World event in Bellevue, Washington where they showed how customers are solving real world problems with innovative infrastructure. The show was very well attended, and customers were highly engaged on the show floor. I had a chance to attend the event in person and meet with several of the Lenovo executives while viewing demos of their new products and solutions.

Shifting from infrastructure to outcomes

One of the first things you note when walking on the show floor and in the keynotes is how Lenovo has shifted their focus to outcomes and away from solely technology. This was most striking with the opening keynote. Two people afflicted with ALS talked about their stories and how technology is helping them today and into the future. The second person, who is non-verbal, used Lenovo technology and AI live on stage to introduce Lenovo’s CEO, YY. The keynote also brought the CEOs of Intel, AMD and Nvidia to the stage along with a video from Microsoft’s CEO all talking about their strong partnerships.

During the Intel CEO’s keynote, he presented Lenovo’s CEO with the first Panther Lake processor built using Intel’s new 18A process.

On the show floor, most of the booths were focused on Lenovo showing use cases from Formula 1 to retail store checkout to warehouse inventory management. There were quite a few booths showing how AI is used and cybersecurity solutions. This was in addition to Lenovo partners. Lenovo also had their latest infrastructure on display including their new 6th-Gen Neptune Liquid Cooling that uses metal channels that weave through the system across processors and memory.

New technology requires a change in thinking

As I wrote in my prior post, infrastructure is back in vogue. From Lenovo’s new Aura Edition AI PCs to their ThinkSystem servers leveraging Nvidia H200 GPUs and Neptune liquid cooling, they are shifting heavily toward supporting AI across the portfolio with new outcomes.

Each of these require a different way of thinking though. For example, Lenovo demonstrated services including their NewTalk Live generative AI interface. NewTalk serves as a sort of user-focused control tower for other chatbots, agents and interfaces.

On the server end, Lenovo is rethinking how they approach high-density and high-performance computing with efficiency and sustainability in mind. One product that stood out was their Neptune liquid cooling system that uses water rather than specialized coolant. It also takes a different approach to how it cools water. Instead of chilling water entering the system, the water enters at room temperature. It then exits at a higher temperature which can be used to heat buildings and other purposes. By not pre-chilling the water, Lenovo expects customers to save on energy and contribute to their sustainability goals.

AI at the forefront

Enterprises are using AI from the cloud to the edge and everywhere in-between. Lenovo is addressing that need with their Aura Edition AI PC. Even Intel’s CEO mentioned the Aura PC is the PC in his bag.

Providing AI capabilities from the edge to the data center provides the enterprise with options depending on the application needs.

The use cases are far and wide from Lenovo’s NewTalk Live control tower that connects users to other AI agents and interactions to the creation of content. In the keynote, they showed how their technology can be used to create a flyer and content based on data within the enterprise using a simple prompt. It is a good example of how AI is being used to leverage internal enterprise data.

One thing that stood out was that Lenovo made a point multiple times that AI is intended to augmenthumans, not replace them. I recently wrote about the Agentic Era and the impact on humans.

CIO Perspective

Lenovo is a well-known and respected brand within the enterprise. What is probably less well known is their ability to bring services and applications to solve business challenges facing enterprises.

Lenovo’s shift to focus on solving enterprise challenges should resonate well with CIOs looking for a partner that can marry the business outcomes with the solutions and infrastructure.

The innovation that Lenovo is bringing to the data center is also impressive such as their new Nvidia H200 and liquid cooling options.
